My name is Jialu (Rayna) Zhao. I am currently a Master's student in International Comparative Education at Stanford University, under the guidance of Dr. Prashant Loyalka and Dr. Christine Min Wotipka. My academic pursuit is fueled by a passion for International and Comparative Education, Literacy and Language, and Communication, Media, & Learning Technologies Design. I prefer to seek PhD opportunity after my Master program.

My master thesis explores gender representation in ninth-grade science textbooks from China and the United States, using an innovative approach that combines a large language model (LLM) with a social semiotic framework to uncover implicit meanings in images. This research highlights how cultural and educational norms influence educational materials and suggests ways to foster gender equality in STEM education.

Before Stanford, I attended the University of California, Irvine, where I achieved dual degrees in Economics and Educational Science in 2021 with honors. My academic journey has been enriched by active collaborations with professors and scholars from both China and the United States. My research delves into the impact of interactive media on children's learning outcomes, the application of the metaverse in higher education, and art education. These areas represent a bridge between technological advancement and educational enhancement, reflecting my commitment to exploring innovative educational solutions.
